«Sunni islam and democracy: Sources and challenges»
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming webinar titled «Sunni islam and democracy: Sources and challenges» conducted by Prof. Ghaleb Bencheikh.
Democracy, a form of government that sets a base for equal rights and foundational freedoms, is a controversial issue for certain societies that might hold different views of governance today. This makes the topic especially relevant to the European context, which includes multicultural and religious backgrounds and Muslims as a central component of its communities. In this context, the webinar will tackle the main questions about the Islamic view of Democracy. What are the elements of the Islamic tradition that could point to Democracy? What is the main contribution that Sunni Islam could offer to Western democracies? What are still the main challenges?
